UNITED NATIONS: On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the United Nations hosted a virtual event to commemorate the 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust during World War II.

According to reports, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said during the ceremony that the Holocaust "shaped the United Nations," and that the UN Charter was established in San Francisco "as the Dachau concentration camp was freed."

"Our very name was coined to describe the alliance fighting the Nazi regime and its allies," the UN chief said, remembering the Jews who perished in the Holocaust, as well as the Roma and Sinti, and countless other victims of its "unprecedented horror and calculated cruelty." "The UN must always remain at the forefront of the battle against antisemitism and all other kinds of religious prejudice and racism," the UN head stated.

Antisemitism, prejudice, and Holocaust denial are on the rise, according to Guterres, and "no civilization is exempt." "It's important to remember that the Holocaust could have been avoided. The victims' cries for help fell on deaf ears. Too few people spoke up, too few people listened, and even fewer people stood up in solidarity "he stated
