London is on high alert after UK police carried out a controlled explosion outside the US embassy on Friday in response to a suspicious package. The police confirmed that the "loud bang" heard in the area was a result of the controlled explosion. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have set up safety cordons around the area.

The US embassy also confirmed the discovery of a suspicious package outside the building and said local authorities are investigating the matter. For safety, a nearby road was closed to prevent any potential risk.

At the same time, Gatwick Airport, a major international hub, evacuated a large section of its south terminal as a precautionary measure due to a security incident. The airport, which connects London to over 220 destinations, posted on social media that passengers are currently unable to enter the South Terminal. It assured the public that the safety and security of passengers and staff is its top priority and that efforts are being made to resolve the situation swiftly.

The US embassy has confirmed that a suspicious package found near its premises is currently under investigation. Local authorities responded swiftly to the incident, leading to the closure of a nearby road for safety reasons.

In a statement released on social media platform X, the police reassured the public, clarifying that the "loud bang" heard earlier in the area was the result of a controlled explosion carried out by officers to safely manage the situation. The authorities emphasized that inquiries are still ongoing, and security cordons will remain in place for the time being.
