Barack Obama Joins Kamala Harris in Campaign for US Presidential Elections 2024

Former US President Barack Obama will join Vice President Kamala Harris on the campaign trail in key swing states ahead of the 2024 US Presidential elections. The campaign tour will kick off next Thursday in Pittsburgh, where Obama will add his influence to Harris's efforts as she vies for the White House.

In the final stretch of the election campaign, Obama plans to visit key battleground states right up until election day. “President Obama believes the stakes of this election are incredibly high, which is why he is doing all he can to help elect Vice President Harris and Democrats across the country,” said Eric Schultz, a senior advisor to Obama.

Obama and Harris share a 20-year friendship, which began when they met during his Senate campaign. After convincing President Joe Biden to step aside from the 2024 race, Obama endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate to take on Republican rival Donald Trump. In a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Obama praised Harris as a political successor, highlighting her role as the first female, Black, and South Asian vice president.

Leading the crowd in chants of "Yes she can" – a twist on his 2008 campaign slogan "Yes we can" – Obama acknowledged that the 2024 election would be closely contested in a polarized nation. During the Democratic convention in August, Obama emphasized Harris’s humble beginnings, saying, “She wasn’t born into privilege. She had to work for everything she’s achieved.” He also noted her genuine concern for others.

Harris has long been a supporter of Obama, having campaigned for him in Iowa during his 2008 presidential bid.

Americans can now place high-stakes bets on the outcome of the 2024 US Presidential election, with wagers potentially reaching millions. Traders are reportedly allowed to bet up to $100 million on whether Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump will win the election this November.

The betting is made possible through a collaboration between financial exchange startup Kalshi and brokerage firm Interactive Brokers. Trading on the first regulated markets opened Friday morning, offering a new platform for wagers on the presidential race.
