Basava Jayanti is being celebrated today, know the important things related to it

Basava Jayanti is a Hindu festival celebrated by the Lingayat majority in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on the birthday of Basavanna. Prabhu Basavanna was the founder of Lingayatism and his birthday is considered to be the beginning of a new era, which is called Basavanna Yuga or Basaveshwara Yuga. Basaveshwara's birthday usually falls on the third day of the month of Vaishakh. 

This time Basava Jayanti will be celebrated on 23 April 2023. It is declared as a state holiday in Karnataka. Because there is a large number of followers of Basavanna in Karnataka. People of all the cities and villages of Karnataka celebrate in a grand manner. On this day people go to the temples of Lord Basaveshwar and offer prayers. This is an important day for the farmers.
