Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati chaired a meeting on Saturday to discuss the party's preparations for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The focus of the meeting was to deliberate on the selection of candidates for the general elections. In attendance were senior BSP leaders and district presidents from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Mayawati, in a statement issued by the BSP, urged party leaders to adopt an organized approach and refrain from employing tactics used by opposition parties, such as price manipulation, punitive measures, and discrimination. Additionally, the BSP chief emphasized the necessity of organizing cadre camps in every constituency across Uttar Pradesh. She reiterated the party's stance of not forming an alliance with any other political party, emphasizing that BSP would independently contest the Lok Sabha elections. Mayawati urged leaders and workers to conduct small meetings to expand the BSP's support base and fortify the party. She criticized the politicization of religion for electoral gains, stating that it adversely affects the country and public interest. Mayawati highlighted the widespread dissatisfaction among over 81 crore people due to issues such as high inflation, poverty, and unemployment, emphasizing the need for a more lasting solution to livelihood challenges. Notably, the former Chief Minister stressed that BSP candidates selected for the Lok Sabha polls must maintain a clean and untarnished image. She expressed confidence that BSP would secure victory in 60 to 65 seats in Uttar Pradesh. BSP State President Vishwnath Pal provided insights after the meeting, mentioning that cadre camps are currently being organized in all constituencies of Uttar Pradesh. He asserted that the party is fully prepared to contest elections on all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state, and the goal is to connect people and communities for the upcoming election, expressing a desire for Mayawati to become the Prime Minister of the country. In addition, the BSP is conducting public meetings in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh on January 15 to assess preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party also launched the 'Behan Ji' app on January 15, coinciding with Mayawati's birthday. The app aims to connect with the youth of the country. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Mayawati's BSP formed an alliance with the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, securing victory in 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
