New Delhi: On January 20th, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) issued a memorandum announcing a half-day closure until 2:30 PM in light of the Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya.

The notice clarified that despite the hospital being on high alert until February 21, 2024, critical clinical services would remain operational. However, some opposition leaders and left-liberals posted content suggesting a shutdown of emergency services. Priyanka Chaturvedi, Shiv Sena MP for Rajya Sabha, humorously urged people not to have a medical emergency on the 22nd and, if they did, to schedule it after 2 PM. She questioned the disruption of health services to welcome Lord Ram.

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal expressed disappointment over the shutdown of the OPD, stating that such an occurrence would never have happened in Ram Rajya. Srinivas BV, National President of Indian Youth Congress, raised concerns about potential lives lost due to the temporary closure.

Despite criticism from left-liberals and opposition figures, it was highlighted that AIIMS OPD routinely closes on national holidays, including Eid, Christmas, Diwali, Independence Day, Republic Day, and weekends. The Pran Pratishtha ceremony for the Ram Mandir is a significant event in Independent India's history, holding immense importance for the country's majority Hindus. AIIMS employees, including doctors, have the right to partake in the celebrations.

As stated in the notice, emergency and critical services at the hospital will continue without interruption, ensuring immediate assistance for any patient in need.
