It may be mentioned that Rahul Gandhi had offered to resign as Chairman at the Congress Working Committee meeting held on May 25 following the congress' humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. However, the members of the Working Committee rejected their offer and authorized them to make a radical change. Since then, Rahul Gandhi has been adamant about his continued resignation.
