Big blow to Congress amid efforts for opposition unity, Bengal's only MLA Byron Vishwas joins TMC

Kolkata: Ahead of next year's Lok Sabha elections and a general meeting of opposition parties in Patna, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has given a major setback to the Congress in Bengal. In fact, Byron Biswas, the lone Congress MLA in West Bengal, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday. Byron Biswas has announced his joining the Trinamool Congress by holding the Trinamool Congress flag in the hands of TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Byron Biswas had recently won the Sagardighi assembly by-election by defeating the TMC candidate. The Congress victory was considered a big defeat for the TMC. The TMC announced on its Twitter handle that Byron Bisbas has joined the TMC. The Trinamool Congress's Twitter handle said Byron Biswas joining the party will help in fighting the disruptive forces.

The results of sagardighi election were declared on March 2. Not even 90 days have passed since he became an MLA on a Congress ticket that Byron joined the TMC. Byron Biswas held the TMC flag at TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee's Nabazbar event. With this, the number of Congress MLAs in the Assembly has again come down to zero.
