Bihar CM Nitish Kumar reprimanded by Patna High Court in this regard

Patna: Nitish government in Bihar was strongly reprimanded by the Patna High Court. The rebuke comes after he was accused of delaying filling up about 30,000 vacant posts in the police department. Hearing the matter, the court said that the government does not seem to care for the safety of life and property of ordinary citizens. In fact, the police department that comes within the Home Ministry is with CM Nitish Kumar. The case was heard on Friday in a bench of Chief Justice A P Sahi and Judge Anjana Mishra.

Asked by the court why these posts are not being filled up. It was assured by the State Government that these posts would be filled up in the next four years. The court objected to the state government's assurance and asked why all these posts could not be filled up within the next ten years. However, the court directed the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary of the state to appear before it on August 13 and explain at least how long it will take to fill up these vacant posts.

The case was going on in the Supreme Court where the Supreme Court, while hearing a PIL, had directed all state governments to fill up the vacant posts of their police departments in a phased manner. The order was passed in April 2017 and was to be made in all vacant posts by August 2020. The order also issued an order to the High Court of each state to monitor the matter. Significantly, every week, the high court is reprimanded on two or three subjects.
