Patna: Badami Devi, a witness in the murder of journalist Rajdev Ranjan, was declared brought dead by the CBI. On Friday, the witness appeared before the Muzaffarpur court. Subsequently, the court issued a show-cause notice to the investigating CBI for submitting a fake death report. Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge Punit Kumar Garg issued notice to the CBI and directed it to file its reply before June 20. The case will now be heard on June 20. Rajiv Ranjan was shot dead in Siwan by five assailants in 2016. Earlier, the CBI had sought summons for questioning Badami Devi, which was issued by the court. However, on May 24, the CBI declared Badami Devi dead and submitted her report. But today she appeared before the police with her documents and affidavit. In her affidavit, Badami Devi has said that she was staying at her Kasera Toli residence in Siwan. I was made a witness in the case but no CBI officer was found. However, the CBI declared me dead, about which I received the news through newspapers. Advocate Sharad Sinha, appearing for the petitioners, told the court that such an act on the part of the top investigating agency appears to be suspicious. Now there is no hesitation in saying that the CBI must have done this kind of work with other witnesses also. She said it was strange and shocking. The Bihar government had on May 17, 2016, handed over the case to the CBI for a detailed investigation. The CBI had registered a case on September 15, 2016, and questioned the late RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin. Shahabuddin, however, had claimed that he was in jail at the time of the incident.
