BJP Picks Candidates for 3 Punjab Lok Sabha Seats

Chandigarh: The BJP announced its choices for three Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, assigning former minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi to Ferozepur. Subhash Sharma will represent the party in the Anandpur Sahib constituency, while Arvind Khanna will contest from Sangrur. All 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will be contested in the seventh phase of the election on June 1. The BJP has already named candidates for most seats. This marks the first time in decades that the BJP is contesting independently in Punjab after splitting from the Shiromani Akali Dal, one of its long-standing allies. In its quest to fortify its presence in the state, the BJP has managed to attract several influential leaders, including sitting MPs from other parties, to join its ranks.

The BJP's decision to field candidates independently in Punjab signifies a significant shift in the state's political landscape. Breaking away from the Shiromani Akali Dal alliance, the BJP is determined to carve its own path and establish a stronger foothold in Punjab. With a slew of influential leaders joining its ranks, the party is poised to mount a formidable challenge in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This move underscores the BJP's strategic repositioning and its ambitions to emerge as a dominant political force in Punjab.
