BJP releases 4 candidate names for Delhi Lok Sabha Election 2019

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced the name of four candidates; including Union minister Harsh Vardhan, for Lok Sabha elections in Delhi. Names for the three remaining seats are expected to be announced by Monday. The party has again nominated Vardhan and BJP state unit president Manoj Tiwari from Chandni Chowk and North East Delhi seats respectively.

Pravesh Verma got the ticket from West Delhi while Ramesh Bidhuri will be BJP's candidate for South Delhi seat. Vardhan (64), an MBBS from GSVM medical college, Kanpur, had defeated AAP's Ashutosh in the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Chandni Chowk by a margin of 1,36,320 votes. He has won the Krishna Nagar Assembly constituency five times consecutively since 1993.

According to a senior leader, these four seats were the “easiest to decide” as top leaders were not keen on making changes, irrespective of whether the Congress and AAP formed an alliance in the capital or not. On the remaining three seats, sources said the party is likely to change its candidates. According to party sources, reasons vary from waiting for the opposition’s final decision on an alliance to the RSS and BJP leadership not being satisfied with the performance.
