Blast hits Afghan capital Kabul, panic grip among residents

Kabul: Despite no reported loss of life or property, peace in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, was once again broken by a bomb, prompting concern among the country's war-weary citizens.

The bomb occurred at 09:40 a.m. local time on Wednesday, according to Interior Ministry spokesman Qari Sayed Khosti, when an improvised explosive device packed in a vase placed on the Darul Aman road went off, causing no casualties. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses and the local news outlet Ariana News reported that five individuals were hurt, including security guards.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the explosion. Islamic State-affiliated militants who were involved in three terror acts in November, including the blast that killed 15 people and injured 34 more at a military hospital in Kabul, have yet to speak.

The bomb on Tuesday was the latest in a series of blasts in Afghanistan in recent weeks. On Thursday last week, a bomb exploded near a civilian car in Kabul, killing four children and injuring one. In another development, some explosive remnants blew off by accident on the outskirts of Taluqan, the capital of the northern Takhar province, killing four children and injuring one.
