BMW may soon offer width-adjustable seats for its Bikes

While many standard bikes already have height-adjustable seats, BMW Motorrad is now introducing new seats that can also be modified for breadth. With the next saddle design, BMW hopes to lift the bar even further for its future R 1250 GS adventure bike.

BMW's new seat design demonstrates how easy it is to extend the breadth of motorbike seats. A comparable design is also existent for bicycles, which makes one ask why it isn't currently in use for motorcycles. According to the newly leaked images, the seat is split three ways, with the back two portions movable for increased breadth and the front element fixed as usual.

Each area appears to have its own set of seat coverings as well. The seat looks to be conventional in normal situations, but when the cover is removed, the design shows that the two back parts pivot from their outer front corners and are supported by curved runners beneath. It should be noted, however, that while the rear half sections may be extended outward to increase the total width, the operation does create a centre gap.
