Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the violence on the border has taken place due to a crackdown on drug trafficking and the sesame seeds of curbing cow slaughter. He has requested Mizoram CM Zoramthanga to investigate the matter as to where the citizens got bulletproof jackets and rifles to attack the police. CM Sarma said his state will abide by any law passed by Parliament and hand over the land to another state if the law says so, but will not allow "one-inch encroachment" till this happens. The remarks from CM Sarma came a day after five Assam policemen and a civilian were killed in a crash along the border with Mizoram. He also said that the Assam government will move the Supreme Court to save the 'Inner line Forest Reserve' from destruction and encroachment and deploy three commando battalions to strengthen security in Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi districts bordering Mizoram. "It is the responsibility of the Centre to determine the border and we will follow it if tomorrow Parliament brings a law that can take our land to another State, we will do it, but till then we will protect our constitutional limits completely," CM Sarma said in a press conference after paying homage to the slain policemen. CM Sarma also visited Silchar Medical College and Hospital and met the policemen injured in the attack. Assam has declared three days of state mourning after the incident.
