Ahmedabad: After landing in India on Thursday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson paid a visit to the Sabarmati Ashram, popularly known as Gandhi Ashram. Johnson is on a two-day visit to India. The Ashram trust gave him two booklets, one of which was an unpublished guide written by Mahatma Gandhi himself for people wishing to reside in London. UK PM arrived at Sabarmati Ashram on Thursday morning after arriving at Ahmedabad airport, where he was met by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and trustee Kartikeya Sarabhai, said the Ashram's spokesperson Virat Kothari. Sarabhai presented two books and a replica of a charkha or spinning wheel to Johnson, who spent over 30 minutes on the site on behalf of the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust. After paying floral respects to Gandhi, Johnson also visited 'Hriday Kunj,' the Mahatma's home, and 'Mira Kutir,' the home of Gandhi's English-born disciple Mirabehn or Madeleine Slade. Before leaving, the British Prime Minister tried his hand at the charkha. "Guide to London," an unpublished book containing Gandhi's ideas on how to live in London, was one of the volumes sent to Johnson. It is Gandhi's first and only book, which was never published. We gleaned the content a book based on the material of Mahatma Gandhi's Collected Works " Kothari said. The other book was Mirabehn's autobiography, "The Spirit's Pilgrimage."
