NEW DELHI: Post-Godhra riots case- In a case related to the alleged fabrication of evidence during the 2002 Gujarat riots, activist Teesta Setalvad has been granted regular bail by the Supreme Court, as reported by reliable sources. To provide interim protection from arrest until July 19, the apex court had previously extended its shield to Setalvad earlier this month. Last June, Setalvad, along with former Gujarat Director General of Police R B Sreekumar and ex-IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, was arrested in connection with a case registered by the Ahmedabad crime branch police. The case accused them of fabricating evidence to wrongly implicate innocent individuals in the post-Godhra riots. The Supreme Court bench declared that the activist would be considered on continuous bail since September 2, 2022. However, it sternly warned her against attempting to influence any witnesses, stating that the prosecution could directly approach the SC to cancel her bail if she were to do so. Previously, the Gujarat High Court had rejected Setalvad's plea for regular bail, prompting the apex court to grant her interim protection in this matter.
