The government has also announced a grant of Rs 44,720 crore to the loss-making state-run telecom company India Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). This was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her speech for the Budget 2022-23. As per the budget, this money is going to be used in bsnl's 4G service and restructuring of the company. Along with Rs 44,720 crore for upgradation, the government has also announced an additional financial assistance of Rs 7,443.57 to BSNL for the voluntary retirement scheme. Rs 3,550 crore is also going to be given for GST payments. The money received for the voluntary retirement scheme is going to be used for both BSNL and MTNL. This financial assistance is different from the Rs 69,000-crore relief package that was given in October 2019. In December 2021, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran had also blamed the government for the current condition of BSNL. Maran has said during question hour in the Lok Sabha that BSNL's 4G and 5G services are missing and has only misjudged the government for this. Maran further said that the former telecom minister had assured that both BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) are going to be able to provide 4G and 5G services to users, but that has not happened so far. Who will answer that? Maran has said that BSNL customers are going with Reliance Jio, which the government is also working to support. Maran even went so far as to say that PM Narendra Modi's photos are used for advertising Jio. There has been an uproar in the Lok Sabha after Maran's statement. After which Speaker Om Birla interrupted Maran and said that MPs have only started asking questions related to their respective states and constituencies or policy matters.
