New Delhi, India: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the nationwide roll-out of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, with a budget of Rs 1,600 crore over five years, as per press release. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will be implemented by the National Health Authority (NHA) (ABDM). Over the years, digital health solutions have proven to be extremely beneficial across the healthcare ecosystem, with CoWIN, Arogya Setu, and eSanjeevani proving the role that technology can play in providing access to healthcare. However, in order to provide a continuum of care and make efficient use of resources, such solutions must be integrated. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is building a seamless online platform by providing a wide range of data, information, and infrastructure services, while ensuring the security, confidentiality, and privacy of health-related personal information, based on the foundations laid down in the form of the Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile (JAM) trinity and other government digital initiatives. Citizens will be able to create their “Ayushman Bharat Health Account” numbers, which will be connected to their digital health information, under the ABDM. This will allow for the construction of longitudinal health records for individuals across many healthcare providers, as well as better clinical decision-making on the part of healthcare providers.
