New Delhi, India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that the defence sector should take advantage of India's strengths in information technology, while emphasising the importance of cyber security to national security.
Cyber security, according to Prime Minister Modi, has become a subject of national security. He called for leveraging India's information technology (IT) sector's strengths in the defence sector. "The IT sector in India is one of our greatest assets. The more we employ this capability in our defence sector, the more secure we will be. Cyber security, for example, is no longer exclusive to the digital realm. It has turned into a national security issue "'Aatmanirbharta in Defense-Call to Action,' declared the Prime Minister during a webinar.
The Prime Minister stated that the country's defence exports had surged sixfold in the last five to six years. "It's also comforting to know that in the previous five or six years, we've grown defence exports by sixfold. The Prime Minister highlighted that seven new defence public undertakings were established last year. He said, "Our ordnance manufacturers have demonstrated that if we move on with zeal and sincerity, we can accomplish the necessary results. We established seven new defence public undertakings last year. They are rapidly growing their capacities and entering new markets."
