Cabinet approves Green Energy Corridor Phase-II project worth Rs 12,000 cr

New Delhi: In a push for green energy, the second phase of the Green Energy Corridor has been approved by the Cabinet, said Union Minister Anurag Thakur.

The Centre will contribute 33 percent of the project's cost, according to Thakur, which intends to enable grid integration and power evacuation of around 20GW of renewable energy projects in seven states over a five-year period.

The Rs 12,031-crore project will add about 10,750 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and boost substation capacity to over 27,500 megavolts-amperes. Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh are among the seven states covered by the project.

The programme will aid in meeting the 2030 goal of 450 GW of installed renewable energy capacity. Furthermore, the green corridor would help to the country's long-term energy security and encourage environmentally friendly growth by lowering carbon emissions, according to the minister.

The scheme is expected to be implemented at a total cost of Rs 12,031.33 crore, with Central Financial Assistance (CFA) at 33% of the project cost, or Rs 3970.34 crore. The transmission systems will be built during a five-year period, from Financial Year 2021-22 to Financial Year 2025-26.
