Puducherry: A major decision has been taken to establish a presidential rule in Puducherry. The Union Cabinet approved the imposition of Presidential rule in Puducherry after the fall of the government led by Chief Minister Narayanasamy. Puducherry moved to the President's administration after the Opposition did not show interest in forming a new government. The presidential rule in Puducherry is likely to continue till the Assembly elections in April-May. The file will now go to President Ram Nath Kovind, who is likely to give his assent for imposing President's Rule in Puducherry later Wednesday. After President gives his assent, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said the assembly will be dissolved. The Narayanasamy government, which lost its majority, resigned after six MLAs, including five from the Congress, resigned from the ruling party. With the resignation of six members, the number of MLAs in the Congress-DMK alliance has come down to 12. NR Congress-BJP The coalition-led opposition has 14 members. This will be the 131st time that President's Rule is imposed in the country since independence. The last time Article 356 was invoked was in October 2019 in Maharashtra.
