Cabinet Secy Rajiv Gauba gets one-year extension in service

New Delhi: Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba has been given one more year extension by the government, according to a Ministry of Personnel order.

The Gauba terms were supposed to be finished by the end of the month. He will, nevertheless, remain in that role until August 30, 2023. Gauba received a one-year extension from the government through August 2022 last year in 2021 as well.

After PK Sinha's retirement on August 30, 2019, Gauba was appointed the next Cabinet Secretary in the Government of India.

Gauba is a Jharkhand cadre IAS official from the 1982 batch who has held significant positions including Chief Secretary of Jharkhand, Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development, and Union Home Secretary. He has also represented India before the IMF

He was a significant player in carrying out the Centre's decision to repeal Article 370 and restructure Jammu and Kashmir, and he is largely credited for the decision's faultless and seamless execution. He oversaw the development and implementation of these projects in the Ministry of Home Affairs with an attention to detail.

He worked on administrative and security procedures while finalising the constitutional and legal matters with a small core team.

Prior to this, while serving as MHA's Additional Secretary, he created a multifaceted action plan to combat LWE and oversaw its implementation, which had the important effect of reducing the Maoists' area of control.

Along with MHA, Gauba has held positions in the Central Government's Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Urban Development, Defense, Environment and Forests, and other diverse departments. Gauba had implemented significant governance and economic reforms as Chief Secretary of Jharkhand, including lateral entrance of experts, restructuring, downsizing of Ministries, and labour reforms.
