New Delhi: The official website of the Canadian Armed Forces experienced a temporary disruption on Wednesday when it was hacked by a group of hackers known as 'Indian Cyber Force,' who later claimed responsibility for the cyberattack on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The disruption began around noon but was subsequently resolved, according to Daniel Le Bouthillier, the head of media relations at the Department of National Defence, as reported by The Globe and Mail. The Indian Cyber Force posted on X that they had "taken down" the Canadian Airforce Website and shared a screenshot of the error message displayed on the website. While some desktop users were still able to access the site, many mobile device users faced difficulties, as reported by The Globe and Mail. It's worth noting that the affected website is separate and isolated from the Government of Canada and the Department of National Defence's public websites and internal networks. Le Bouthillier reassured that there were no signs of broader impacts on their systems. The Canadian Armed Forces, responsible for all military operations in Canada, including the navy, special command groups, air, and space operations, are actively investigating the cyberattack. Notably, the Indian Cyber Force had previously issued a threat to Canada on September 21, warning via social media of impending cyberattacks on Canadian cyberspace. On September 22, the group expressed its dissatisfaction with the Canadian government's "allegations and anti-India politics." This cyberattack occurred amid a diplomatic standoff between India and Canada following allegations by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India strongly rejected these allegations, labeling them as "absurd" and calling on Canada to take action against terrorists and anti-India elements operating from its territory. As a result, India suspended visa services for Canadians.
