Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant progress in the Sandeshkhali ED assault case, with the recent arrest of three additional suspects. Identified as Mafujar Molla, Sirajul Molla, and Sheikh Alomgir, these arrests bring the total number of individuals in custody to six, as the investigation continues. Earlier, on March 11, the CBI had made three arrests, namely Didar Baksh Molla, Faruk Akunji, and Jiaudddin Molla, who is the Panchayat Pradhan of Sarberia Panchayat. These developments mark crucial strides in unraveling the complexities surrounding the incident. The arrested individuals are believed to have ties to expelled TMC leader Shahajahan Sheikh, who was previously apprehended in connection with the same case. The Supreme Court's decision not to interfere with the Calcutta High Court's order for a CBI probe into the Sandeshkhali matter further underscores the gravity of the situation. The arrests were made in connection with the FIR filed following the attack on the ED officers, indicating the agency's resolve to swiftly address such criminal activities, especially those targeting law enforcement personnel. All accused individuals are set to appear before the magistrate for further legal proceedings. As investigations progress, the CBI remains committed to collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served. Additionally, the agency has summoned nine individuals, including a close aide of the main accused Shahjahan Sheikh, for questioning at its Kolkata office. Apart from the attack on the ED team, Shahjahan is implicated in various other crimes, including land grab, extortion, and alleged assaults on women, along with his associates. The women of Sandeshkhali have protested vehemently, accusing Shahjahan and his cohorts of egregious offenses, including land-grabbing and sexual assault under coercion. These developments highlight the CBI's dedication to upholding the rule of law and bringing the perpetrators of such crimes to justice, ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
