Chennai Corp appoints transperson to fly drones

CHENNAI:  Although more transgender students are enrolling in classes, finding employment is still difficult. The Chennai Corporation will employ seven transpeople to fly drones that spray larvicide and manage the city's mosquito menace in an effort to alleviate the situation.

A resolution to this effect was approved by the corporation on Tuesday during its council meeting. The appointment, on a contract basis, will be provided to E. Prem (19), a transperson from Vellore.

K.R Srikanth, a retired wing commander and the chief operating officer of the Remote Pilot Training Organization in Chennai, spearheaded the move to hire transgender drone operators after they had received training. He found 15 transgender people, helped them find employment, and trained them.

With the aid of NGOs fighting for transgender rights, the transgender students were chosen for training. Before the 10-day training programme started, they received training in the English language, which was the medium of instruction, for the first month.
