Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government, led by Vishnu Deo Sai, is taking a significant step by establishing the state's inaugural Ayurveda university, as announced by Parliamentary and Tourism Minister Brijmohan Agarwal on January 27. This development comes in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on promoting Ayush and Ayurveda, leading to increased global recognition of the ancient medical system. Agarwal highlighted the pivotal role of Ayurveda in daily life and its noteworthy contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating its efficacy in maintaining public health. The announcement was made during a two-day alumni meet at the Ayush “Swarn Kumbh” in Raipur, where Agarwal expressed the government's commitment to promoting Ayurveda principles and traditions worldwide. He underscored the significance of Ayurveda not only for individual health but also for fostering awareness and understanding of Indian culture on a global scale. As part of these efforts, the Chhattisgarh government is actively planning to inaugurate the first Ayurveda university in the state, aligning with the Prime Minister's vision and aiming to contribute to public health education. The recognition and promotion of Ayurveda have gained momentum in Chhattisgarh, coinciding with the recent Padma Shri award conferred upon traditional medical practitioner Vaidraj Hemchand Manjhi from the state. The award recognizes Manjhi's decades-long service in providing Ayurvedic treatments, particularly to those facing life-threatening diseases. This recognition, combined with the state's rich biodiversity of herbs suitable for Ayurvedic treatments, showcases the growing importance of traditional healing methods and the need for structured education and research, as envisioned by the establishment of the Ayurveda university.
