Supreme court's new roster released, major decision on PIL

The country's largest court, the Supreme Court, has released its new work roster. It said that now the Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde and three other most senior judges will be heard in the apex court related to Public Interest Petitions (PIL). This roster has come into force since 26 November.

According to media reports, according to the allocation of work in the roster, Chief Justice Bobde has entrusted the responsibility of hearing the PIL to Justice NV Ramanna, Justice Arun Mishra and Justice RF Nariman. Accordingly, it is being considered different from the previous roster, in which the then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi gave the responsibility of public interest petitions to the top five judges of the Supreme Court, including himself.

For your information, let us tell that along with the CJI in the Supreme Court Collegium, Justice Ramanna, Justice Mishra, Justice Nariman and Justice R. Bhanumati will be present. Apart from PIL cases, CJI Bobde will also hear cases related to contempt, elections, habeas corpus, social justice, direct and indirect taxes etc. CJI will also look into criminal cases and prosecutions related to inquiry commissions, company law, monopoly and restrictive trade, TRAI, SEBI and Reserve Bank of India.
