Chennai: Chief Justice of Madras High Court Vijaya K. Tahilramani resigned from the post in protest against the order of the Supreme Court Collegium. Chief Justice Vijaya K. Tahilramani was transferred to Meghalaya High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium. He requested the collegium to reconsider the order. Which was rejected. Official sources said that Tahilramani submitted his resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday night and also sent a copy of it to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. The collegium headed by Justice Gogoi recommended transfer of Tahilramani to the Meghalaya High Court. He was made the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court on August 8 last year. The collegium recommended his transfer on 28 August. After this, Justice Tahilramani gave a report to the collegium to reconsider his transfer proposal. He had also opposed the decision of the collegium. In the Supreme Court Collegium, Justice S. A. Bobde, Justice N. V. Raman, Justice Arun Mishra and Justice R. F. Nariman was involved. The collegium had also recommended transfer of the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court AK Mittal to the Madras High Court. Justice Tahilramani was appointed Justice of the Bombay High Court on 26 June 2001. In May 2017, Justice Tahilramani, while acting as the acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, upheld the convictions and life sentences of all 11 persons in the Bilkis Bano gang rape case.
