BEIJING: Floods in China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have affected about 50,000 people, according to the regional emergency management department, which began on May 8.
Rainfall hit a total crop area of over 3,800 hectares over the period, causing 19 houses to collapse and seriously damaging 34 others, according to reports. On Thursday alone, heavy rains pelted the eastern portion of Guangxi and some of its coastal areas, with thunderstorms and strong gusts also affecting certain locations.
Some regions saw 150 to 250 mm of rain, with 60 to 90 mm of rain falling every hour or so.
The regional meteorological officials elevated the emergency reaction level for rainstorms to level IV beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, warning local inhabitants to be on the lookout for landslides and other geological disasters.
