CM Neiphiu Rio inaugurates Nagaland's 16th district, Says it a brotherhood district

On Friday, Shamator was designated as Nagaland's 16th district. The new district, which was formed out of Tuensang, was solemnly opened by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. Rio urged that the Shamator area be called 'brotherhood district' in his address, regardless of the fact that its creation was extremely problematic.

He advised the crowd to put past disputes behind , reconcile and coexist peacefully. He also expressed gratitude to the leaders for getting together and resolving differences. Rio mentioned the PMGSY road improvements in the district, as well as the two-laning of NH-202, as examples of how better road connectivity should be prioritised in the future.

He added the central government has received a proposal for a Trans-National Highway connecting Showuba, Dimapur, Pangsha, Noklak, and Shamator through Chessore and Shamator. He also stated that a cooperative bank will be established in Chessore.

Rio urged locals to create a tourist map since the neighbourhood had tourism potential. The chief minister urged the people to maintain a calm and amicable environment in order for society to progress. He also advised them to abandon land disputes in favour of donating land to the government for development. On the same day, Rio lay the foundation stone for the DC complex and the Village Guards Training Centre in Shamator.

S Keoshu Yimkhiung, host of the inaugural programme and adviser to information and public relations, advised people to live in peace with one another for mutual gain. He went on to say that society would progress until there is peace. Tuensang deputy commissioner Kumar Ramnikant pledged the people of Tuensang's support and cooperation to Shamator district, saying Tuensang will be like a father to Shamator.

Thsüvisie Phoji, Shamator deputy commissioner, gave a quick overview of the Shamator district. According to the 2011 census, the new district has a population of 34,223 people and a literacy rate of 68.79 percent. The occasion was marked with performances by various cultural troupes as well as special numbers.
