Bangalore:: According to a press release, the Cellular Operation Association of India (COAI), the industry's official group, applauded the government of Karnataka's notification of the  Right of Way (RoW) Policy on Urban Municipal Corporation.

These byelaws applicable to all City areas, Municipal Councils, Town Municipal Councils, Town Panchayats, and places under the jurisdiction of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), including Telecom Towers and OFCs (Aerial and Underground).

"According to the policy, the one-time fee to cover administrative expenses for the installation of Telecom Tower and Aerial OFC deployment is Rs 10,000 per Application (Tower & Aerial OFC), whereas the deployment of Optical fibre is Rs 1,000 per KM OFC (underground) and the deployment of Cell on Wheel (CoW) (Micro Site/Small Cell, IBS) is Rs 2,000 per application," the release stated.

The policy stimulates the implementation of towers, underground OFCs, aerial OFCs, CoWs, Micro Sites, Small Cells, IBSs, and other digital connectivity infrastructure across the Urban Municipal Corporation and other Karnataka areas. The programme also encourages the regularisation of existing telecommunications infrastructure, which will help the state's GDP develop. As a result, the quality of mobile services will improve, and the state's telecom/digital infrastructure will be strengthened.
