The CBI on Tuesday registered a new case against Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram. Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti is accused of getting Indian visas to 250 Chinese nationals, in return for which he took a bribe of 50 lakhs. On Tuesday, the CBI team raided 9 places including Karti Chidambaram's house and office. These raids were done in Chennai, Delhi etc. CBI had also raided three locations in Mumbai, one in Karnataka and one each in Punjab and Odisha. In the case in which the CBI has registered a new case, the investigation was already going on in that case. The CBI alleges that Karti Chidambaram got visas to 250 Chinese nationals during the UPA's tenure, in return for which he ate a bribe of Rs 50 lakh. According to the CBI, these Chinese citizens wanted to come to India and work for some power project. It is alleged that this happened between 2010 and 2014. After preliminary investigation, the CBI had registered an FIR in this case. Karti Chidambaram is accused of helping additional Chinese workers get visas illegally and in return for taking bribes.
