PM Modi wishes birthday greetings to former Prime Minister HD Devegowda

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed former Prime Minister HD Devegowda a happy birthday on Wednesday and wished him a long and healthy life.

"Happy birthday to our former Prime Minister and statesman HD Devegowda ji. May the Almighty grant him a long and healthy life "In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi noted.

Devegowda is the Janata Dal (Secular) Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka. He was born on May 18, 1933, in Haradanahalli, a village in Holenarasipura Taluk, in the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore, to a farmer family.

From June 1996 to April 1997, Devegowda was India's 11th Prime Minister. From June 1996 to April 1997, Devegowda was India's 11th Prime Minister.

Devegowda was born into a farming family and joined the Indian National Congress in 1953, where he remained till 1962. During the Emergency, he was detained. In 1994, he was elected President of the Janata Dal state unit, and was credited with helping the party win in Karnataka. From 1994 to 1996, he was the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka.
