Chidambaram speaks on agricultural bills, 'Public procurement system to be destroyed by these laws'

New Delhi: Farmers continue to protest over three bills relating to agriculture sector. On the one hand, PM Modi is giving agricultural reform bills a defence cover for farmers. On the other hand, Congress is attacking the Modi government over the issue. Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram has showered questions over the agriculture bill. He says the law being brought by the Modi government will destroy the principle of MSP and the public procurement system.

P Chidambaram has tweeted a lot of tweets one after the other. "The APMC system is actually a safety net for the farmer, but it is a restricted market that is not accessible to millions of farmers," he wrote in a tweet. We need to expand the market for agricultural produce by preserving the 'safety net' principle through MSP and government procurement," he wrote, "The law that is being tried by the Modi government to pass will destroy the principle of MSP and the public procurement system."

In another tweet, Chidambaram wrote, "The Congress' manifesto on APMC laws was disappointed by the BJP spokesmen for the distortion. We promised in Manifacto that we would create thousands of farmers markets in small towns and big villages. Once completed, APMC laws can be changed."
