Islamabad: India had sought a Queens Counsel or outside counsel for a fair trial in the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav, a retired Indian Navy officer imprisoned in a Pakistani jail. Pakistan has rejected this demand of India. Pakistan has rejected India's demand saying it unrealistic.

Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman Zahid Hafiz Chaudhary said that India is constantly seeking external counsel. This is unrealistic. He also said that Pakistan has made it clear to India that as per international practice, only lawyers who have license to practice law practice are allowed in our courts. It is noteworthy that this statement from Pakistan has come after the statement of the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

On September 17, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava accused Pakistan of not implementing the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). He demanded Jadhav to be given diplomatic access unconditionally, appointing an Indian lawyer or Queens counsel for a fair and independent hearing.
