Congress MLA from Mawryngkneng David Nongrum passes away

Congress MLA from Meghalaya’s Mawryngkneng constituency, David Nongrum passed away on Tuesday at 42.  He died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

After the complaint of chest pain, David Nongrum was immediately shifted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS). However, he was declared death by Hospital authorities . James Sangma tweeted a condolence message. His tweet reads, "Extremely shocked & saddened to hear of the demise of Shri. David Nongrum, MLA of Mawryngkneng Constituency. His death is a loss not only to the people of his Constituency but also to the State. My deepest sympathies to the bereaved family. May God give them strength."

David Nongrum, a two-time MLA from Mawryngkneng, was the son of veteran Congress leader and former Meghalaya speaker Charles Pyngrope. He was first elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 2013 as an independent candidate. Later, David Nongrum joined the Congress in 2018. He won Meghalaya Assembly on Congress’ ticket in 2018 from the Mawryngkneng constituency.
