New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Friday announced the renaming of the Khel Ratna Award. The award will now be known as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in place of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. Congress has welcomed the decision but has also attacked PM Narendra Modi. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said on the decision that we welcome the naming of the Khel Ratna award in the name of Major Dhyan Chand. Rajiv Gandhi is known not by the name, but by his deeds. The Congress spokesperson said that today when the government has cut off the sports budget, it is trying to divert attention to wipe out its jump. Surjewala also said that it is expected that the stadium will now be named after the players, first of all renaming the Narendra Modi Stadium, Arun Jaitley Stadium after Mary Kom, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Gopichand, and others. The Congress spokesperson further said that Narendra Modi does not know how to draw his line, Narendra Modi goes around erasing the lines of others. In Maharashtra, Congress coalition partner Shiv Sena has criticized the central government's decision. Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant said it is not right to enter into every issue. The time it's done is not good. The Shiv Sena MP said Rajiv Gandhi was the PM of the country and not of any party.
