NEW DELHI: A police source reported that an elderly couple was found dead at their home in Delhi's Gokulpuri area on Monday. The officer further noted that the home had been plundered and that money and jewellery had also gone missing. The deceased were identified as Radhey Shyam Verma, aged 72, and his wife Veena, aged 68, residents of Bhagirathi Vihar. Verma retired from the Delhi Government School in Karol Bagh after serving as vice principal. The family has been residing in this house since the past 38 years, said the official. On Monday at 7:19 a.m., the police received a PCR call reporting a double homicide at Bhagirathi Vihar, and a squad led by the station house officer of the Gokulpuri police station immediately hurried to the scene. "The bodies of Verma and his wife Veena were discovered in their bedroom on the ground floor. The residence had been pillaged. The couple's throats were cut, "the official said. The home's ground and first floors are where the elderly couple's son Ravi Rattan, 38, and his family reside, said the police. "After the initial investigation, it was discovered that the residence was missing Rs. 4.5 lakhs as well as some jewellery. The iron back gate of the home was the most likely point of access. Verma recently received Rs 5 lakhs as an advance payment to sell the home's back section "the official added. "The deceased's son had previously worked at Mustafabad as a substitute teacher. However, he currently operates a clothing and cosmetics store out of the Johripur region. On Sunday night, at 10:30 p.m., he saw his parents." According to the official, police teams are looking through CCTV footage in the area to determine the crime's chronology and identify the perpetrators. "A case has been registered and a crime team is at the spot," said the official, adding that further investigation is in progress.
