More than 10 crore people in crisis due to coronavirus

Washington: Worldwide the epidemic coronavirus had a huge impact on the tourism sector. Not only this, there is a danger in the employment of more than 10 crore people. To better recover from the Corona infection crisis, United Nations agencies have issued new recommendations. In which the fight against plastic pollution has started increasing rapidly for the strong recovery of the tourism sector.

The tourism sector, considered an important part of the economy, accounts for 10% of the global gross domestic product (GDP) and is a source of livelihood for millions of people. Due to the movement and travel restrictions due to Coronavirus, there has been a huge impact on the tourism sector. Due to the epidemic, the number of international tourists is expected to decrease by 58-78% in the year 2020, which is threatening the direct employment of 10-12 million people. These recommendations related to action on plastic pollution have been presented on Wednesday under the 'Global Tourism Plastic Initiative' which is headed by the United Nations Environment Program and the World Tourism Organization.

Through this initiative, efforts are being made to jointly unite the tourism sector to tackle the basic causes of plastic pollution. Lijia Noronha, director of the economic wing of the UN Environment Agency, said that the lack of proper disposal of plastic products such as gloves, masks, hand sanitizer bottles is polluting the environment around the main tourist destinations.
