Covid-19 Updates: India has reported a dip in Covid-19 cases as the country logged 7,178 new cases in the past 24 hours, said the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. This slight drop comes a day after the country saw a drop in infections with 7,178 cases yesterday. With this, the active cases in the country now stands at 63,380 from 65,683 yesterday. India saw a total of 9,213 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Scientists concluded that the Covid-19 variant XBB.1.16 is responsbile for the current spike in Covid cases as a result of the trend of Covid cases increasing. Scientists assert that India's population has hybrid immunity, brought on by both vaccination and naturally occurring infection. As a result of its mild nature, the current Covid-19 variations won't result in a lot of hospitalisations or severity. However, the government has advised individuals to complete their vaccinations if they haven't already and to use masks in busy situations. Rajesh Bhushan, the Union health secretary, had previously written to eight states about stepping up surveillance efforts and upgrading hospital facilities. These states are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases. Bhushan stressed that the pandemic was far from finished and that stopping the spread of infection was essential in a letter to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, and Haryana. The states were given orders by the health secretary to closely monitor increases in severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) and influenza-like illnesses (ILI), increase testing, provide more samples for genome sequencing, and encourage prophylactic doses.
