As per data published on Monday,  April 24,  by the Union Health Ministry, India has seen a significant decrease in the number of daily Covid-19 cases, with 7,178 new cases registered in the preceding 24 hours. This decrease comes the day after the nation reported 10,112 infections. The number of active cases in the nation decreased from 67,806 to 65,683.
As per data updated at 8 am, the country's death toll rose to 5,31,345 with 16 deaths, eight of which were reconciled by Kerala. The weekly positivity rate was calculated to be 5.41 percent, while the daily positivity rate was 9.16%.

Scientists concluded that the Covid-19 variant XBB.1.16 is to blame for the current spike in Covid cases as a result of the trend of Covid cases increasing. Scientists assert that India's population has hybrid immunity, brought on by both vaccination and naturally occurring infection.

Therefore, the present Covid variants will not cause a lot of hospitalization and severity as it is mild in nature.  However, the government has advised individuals to complete their vaccinations if they haven't already and to use masks in busy situations.

Rajesh Bhushan, the union's health secretary, has also contacted eight states that are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases urging them to increase surveillance efforts and upgrade hospital facilities. Bhushan stressed that the pandemic was far from finished and that stopping the spread of infection was essential in a letter to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, and Haryana.

The states were given instructions by the health secretary to closely monitor increases in influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), expand testing, provide additional samples for genome sequencing, and encourage prophylactic doses.
