With the resurgence in Covid, India witnessed a jump daily cases on Friday as it reported over 11,000 cases on Friday, 9 percent more than Thursday.
With 10,158 new Covid cases reported on Thursday, the country also experienced a large increase in Covid cases. The new Covid variant, XBB.1.16, may be the cause of the rise in cases, as per the Eminent epidemiologists and virologists.
"People in high-risk groups, such as those who are pregnant, over 60, have chronic illnesses, have underlying medical disorders, or are immunocompromised, are at a greater risk of developing severe sickness and passing away from Covid-19. They need to be safeguarded, it said.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) recommended people on Monday to practise good hygiene and not to panic in the face of an increase in Covid cases.
"Don't get panic. We have controlled it before, We will do it now also with your support. Covid-19 cases are rising, but do not panic. Maintain hygiene," the statement said.
According to a daily bulletin released on Thursday by the Delhi Health Department, the national capital reported new 1527 COVID-19 cases and two fatalities in the previous 24 hours.
