New Delhi: Brinda Karat, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of CPM (CPM), wrote a letter to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to pay compensation to the families of the minor victims of the riots in the capital in February last year. It is noteworthy that in February last year at least 53 people were killed and many others were injured in communal violence in some areas of north-east Delhi. After the riots, Kejriwal announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the adults killed in the violence and Rs. 5 lakh for the families of the minor victims. Brinda, who recently met the families of the two victims, said that they have come to know that there has been 'discrimination' in giving compensation. According to Karat, a lot of children from poor families go to school and share their family's work and it is not right to base compensation on the basis of earning of the person. He also urged CM Kejriwal to provide compensation amount to the families of the victims of these riots on the first anniversary of their death.
