Dalit Mahapanchayat Sangh to Mobilize Against Congress Over Kumari Selja's Insult

Chandigarh: In a press conference held in Narnaund, Hisar, on Friday, Kuldeep Bhukkal, the State President of the Dalit Mahapanchayat Sangh, expressed strong discontent regarding the treatment of Congress MP Kumari Selja by the Congress party. Bhukkal announced that the entire Dalit community would retaliate against the perceived insult by working together to defeat Congress candidates supported by Bhupendra Singh Hooda in Narnaund and across Haryana.

Bhukkal criticized the Congress for nominating Naresh Selwal from Uklana, who was expelled in 2019 for anti-party activities. He pointed out that Selja would not campaign for the Congress candidate, Jassi Petwar, in the Narnaund area due to the ongoing tensions. He recounted the oppressive actions faced by Dalits during Hooda’s tenure as Chief Minister from 2005 to 2014, highlighting incidents like Mirchpur, Gohana, Bhagana, Dabda, and Daulatpur, where Dalits suffered significant violence, including the burning of homes and shops.

Bhukkal also recalled that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Hooda lost the Sonipat seat due to the lack of Dalit support. While the Congress had initially seen some success in the 2024 elections, he claimed that Hooda supporters have now insulted Selja, who represents the Dalit community. He alleged that Hooda was using threats and financial influence to sway the Congress high command, further asserting that derogatory comments were made about Selja by Hooda's associates. As a result, Selja was expected to campaign only for candidates she supports.

In response to the situation, Bhukkal announced plans to form committees of five members in each district of Haryana. These committees will travel from village to village to raise awareness about what they consider the anti-Dalit stance of the Congress. He concluded by noting that the actions of the Hooda faction had severely damaged the Congress party in Haryana, prompting both Bhupendra Hooda and his son Deepender to acknowledge Selja's status as a senior leader and a figure akin to a sister within the party.
