COLOMBO: The first India-Sri Lanka Defence Seminar and Exhibition was held in Colombo today, June 7, by the Indian High Commission in order to promote and pinpoint fresher areas of collaboration and cooperation between the two nations in the defence industry. The Indian Defence Industry, Sri Lankan businesspeople, the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, Police, and Special Task Force will all take part in the event, the High Commission announced on Wednesday. "The grand event includes a seminar highlighting the capability and capacities of the two countries in defence equipment manufacturing and would also exhibit a wide variety of defence products," the press statement stated. The expo, which was planned with the intention of strengthening ties with Sri Lanka through open and cooperative engagement, seeks to find newer areas of cooperation for economic revival while also ensuring Sri Lanka Armed Forces capacity enhancement. The High Commission added that a variety of Indian defensive systems, including Indra Radar, Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessels, L70 Guns, Dornier Aircraft, and Army Training Simulators, had been successfully used by the Sri Lankan Armed Forces. Similarly, Indian armed forces use Fast Interceptor Crafts and refit of Floating Dock at Colombo. More recently, the Government of India committed to the supply of Floating Dock, Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, and Dornier aircraft which would ensure capacity building of Sri Lanka Armed Forces, the statement read. To encourage cooperation and collaboration between the two nations on defence equipment, the High Commission of India is hosting the first India-Sri Lanka Defence Seminar and Exhibition at Taj Samudra in Colombo. The Indian Defence Industry, Sri Lankan businesspeople, the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, Police, and Special Task Force would all take part in the event. The event's chief guest, State Minister of Defence Hon. Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon, will be joined by other prominent Sri Lankan officials, including the Secretary of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, and Service Commanders. 2.
