NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy today, June 6, successfully carried out a test to hit an underwater target.

A Navy spokesperson said, the successful engagement of an underwater target by a heavy-weight torpedo that was developed domestically was a major step forward in the Indian Navy's and Defence Research and Development Organization's (DRDO) pursuit of accurate ordnance delivery on target in the underwater domain. "This showcases our commitment to Future Proof Combat Readiness. This showcases our commitment to Future Proof Combat Readiness through," the statement said.

The sea level has been tested twice in the last four days. In May, the Navy tested an advanced missile from the destroyer INS 'Mormugao'. The 'Sea Skimming' missile struck the target, which was a floating object in the water, from below.

The Defence Ministry said that the missile was capable of striking targets with a very high degree of precision.
A week ago, India successfully launched the Medium-Range Ballistic Missile Agni-1 from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha as part of another indigenous action. All of the missile's operational and technical parameters were satisfactorily checked by the training launch.

The Ministry claims that the DRDO is developing a technology transfer policy that would see successfully tested goods licenced to Indian businesses for mass manufacturing. This would happen through the execution of a licencing agreement for the transfer of technology.
