Kapil Mishra had won on the Aam Aadmi Party ticket in the 2015 assembly elections. He defeated BJP candidate Mohan Singh Bisht by 44431 votes. While Kapil Mishra got 101865 votes, BJP candidate Mohan Singh got 57434 votes. Kapil Mishra joined BJP this time.
