New Delhi: The Delhi court has sent summons against the accused of sedition and former JNU student Sharajeel Imam taking cognizance of the charge sheet filed under the Unlawful Activity Prevention Act (UAPA). The police has been asked to take the approval of the Delhi government for cognizance of treason. Sharjeel Imam is currently imprisoned in Assam jail and is in Corona. The court has also ordered accused Sharjeel Imam to appear on September 1. However, Sharjeel Imam is infected with Corona, due to which if he is not able to come to court, he will be presented through video conference. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has told the court that it has sought approval from the Delhi government for prosecuting treason against Sharjeel Imam. However, till now the Delhi government has not allowed this. Earlier Delhi Police had said in its charge sheet that Sharjeel Imam was giving an anti-national speech outside Jamia University Campus. Imam tried to provoke the youth, only after which violence erupted in Jamia. Delhi Police had told the court that Sharjeel was also talking about cutting the country outside Aligarh University. Many such videos of Sharjeel Imam were involved in the crime branch. Samples of these videos were taken from the voice and Sharjeel's voice, which have been matched in forensic investigations.
