NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has sentenced the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA to seven days in jail for assaulting a woman in 2014. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal said that MLA is a public servant and therefore it is his duty to meet with the people who bring their problems to them with fairness and humility. The court refused to release him on probation on the grounds of good conduct, saying that he had been convicted earlier in another case and sentenced to three months in jail. Therefore, punishment is required for redressal in this case, the court said. Manoj Kumar, accused in the case, has been convicted under Section 352 of the IPC. Under the facts and circumstances of the case, he has been sentenced to seven days of normal imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 under Section 352 of the IPC, the judge said. The court, however, granted him a 30-day concession on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and a surety amount of the same amount. 'Research needed to build houses in the state' C.M.
